I don't know who is the best but I've always been impressed with Ancora on King St.

This is well after the fact, but in case someone else looks here...I've always been pleased with Barrique's coffee, at the various locations in the Madison area.  I'm not sure if they roast their own or have someone else doing it for them.  They know how to make a proper espresso macchiato.  Once in a while the barista doesn't get it quite right but they'll be happy to remake it for you if that is the case.  I've always liked their customer service and friendly attitudes.
Ancora is acceptable too.
