Intelligentsia is excited to announce our first-ever in-house barista championship! Past, present, and never-before baristas will compete for the top prize of a trip to origin with our roasting crew. We'd like to invite you to join us in witnessing and supporting this event, which should be fun and full of great coffee.
The event is free and open to the public. It will take place on Saturday, August 14th and Sunday, August 15th. Both days will begin at 10 AM. Sunday will be followed by a reception and awards ceremony. This event will be held at our Fulton Street Roasting Works, at 1850 W. Fulton in Chicago. Furthermore, some specialty coffee industry celebrities will be in attendance and are pitching in to judge our competition.
In addition to the competition itself, there will be 3 USBC competitors (myself and Amber from Intelligentsia, and a visitor who will be participating in the USBC this year) showing our programs as well, for exhibition-style practice.
If you're interested in attending one or both days, please RSVP to Ellie Hudson-Matuszak (me) via email. I'll be happy to provide more information if you require. There should be plenty of parking.
Wooo, that sounds fun! Ellie, will you please put my name down for the Sunday session for now? I like to attend this cool event and to meet everybody on both days, but I am not too sure if I can make it to the Saturday session.
Celebrity, I don't know about that. But I am one amped up espresso lover, who will enjoy seeing and talking to all you enthusiasts who make it to the event.

What a beautiful drive from Indy today! Thanks for the hospitality Ellie and all the Intelligentsia gang. We will see you at the Great Lakes competition.
This event was a lot of fun! I've never been to any sort of barista competition, so it was very interesting to see the process that the contestants went through as well as the detailed judging. It was also great to meet the whole Intelligentsia gang as well as a few other CG members!
Ellie, Matt, Doug, Amber and everyone, thanks for the invitation and for being such great hosts!
Steve, Rob, Steve (and April)... It was nice meeting all of you!
