I am a coffee newbie and I have a question!
I want some GOOD coffee, locally. The supermarkets, the best I can find is probably Millstone, which is "OK" (I had some pretty good French Vanilla from Wal-Mart but the Bed and Breakfast is quite vile!)
I am getting a grinder pretty soon but I do not own a roaster (nor do I plan on getting one right now...maybe in the future) so I'd be looking for either pre-roasted beans, or some type of store/shop that can roast the beans in-store for me.
It doesn't need to be super high end, I just don't want stale, nasty beans, but rather I just want a local place that I can get some high-quality coffee at.
Where should I be looking? I am in the Charlotte area....
If that's not close, you can get very fresh coffee at some Costco stores and some Whole Foods Market stores. Some of these stores have roasters inside and sell beans roasted the same day. Just remember that beans need a day or two to degass after roasting for best results.
You can also check the yellow pages or google "coffee roaster" for your area.
You're doing yourself a major disservice not trying CCC, especially being in NC - I believe they have a Charlotte office listed on the website jonr linked to; give them a call and if you don't want to pay shipping from Durham find out if they either let you pick up out of Charlotte or ask them if they sell to any retailers in your vicinity. Otherwise just pay a few bucks to have a pound or two shipped and you should taste a world of difference between Costco/Wallymart stuff.

Earth Fare (in the Ballentyne area, just off I-485 at Johnston Rd.), carries Counter Culture beans. Many kinds of them actually and they rotate their stock pretty frequently to keep things fresh. If I don't have time to roast, or I'm just out of coffee that's where I go.
Everybody needs an addiction.
I'm not addicted to coffee, I just have to have a cup EVERY morning.

Counter Culture is opening, if it's not already opened, a location in Charlotte. You REALLY ought to check it out. I sure as hades would if I were anywhere near it.
Yes, they opened a sales and training location, though I've only seen pictures. They are also talking about expanding their Durham location for training.
