Hey Everyone,

FYI

Scott Rao (the original Rao's Rao) just opened a new cafe and roasteria n Hadley Mass. called Esselon Coffee Roasting Company.  He's roasting on a 23 kilo Gothot (http://www.coffeed.com/gallery/album06).

We cupped his Yirgacheffe last week and were blown away by the sweet mandarin orange beauty of the coffee.

Scott has a Kees Ven der Westen Mirage espresso machine (built in Holland) with active preinfusion and probably the coolest heat exchanger that I have seen.  Scott makes the best cappuccino that I have ever had, btw.  This guy is a geek's geek.

Address:

Esselon Coffee Roasting Co. Inc., 99 Russell St. (Route 9), Hadley, MA 01035

I'm sure that Scott wouldn't mind me posting it here - if you have questions, email Scott at bigabeano@yahoo.com.

I second that. I tried Scott's Yirg as an SOE, the round citrus aroma of lemon grass and lime leaf and the mellow sweet aftertaste was an experience that I ranked with trying Terrior's Kenya Tegu for the first time.

Wow, he's back in the Happy Valley again?  Didn't the guy who bought Rao's get some sort of a non-competition agreement in the contract?  :)  Hampshire County is truly a blessed place.

It's really quite beautiful. The ceilings are fantastic and the columns add nice ambiance.  The round cupping table is a nice... almost inspirational touch at the entranceway.  If you are in the Western MA N. Hadley area, this is a must visit for anyone out there.

Jaime,

Who's driving, your grandmother?  Comments like that will give Boston drivers a bad rep!

Springfield to Boston = 75 minutes except on summer Friday evenings... and you've got the reverse commute.

Rich

P.S. Once did Stamford, CT to Foxboro in 84 mins for Pats game.

Just kidding... I do remember what that's like.  Used to cross the Charles to visit friends and get my Mexican fix in at the Forest Cafe.  Still miss that cilantro sauce they use on the daily catch...
