I was finally able to get to Brew Mountain Coffee in Purcellville, VA this morning. I had heard that this was a good shop and I was not disappointed.
First off they have a small but good selection of equipment (press pot, chemex, aeropress) and cups (bodum, nouva point) and a selection of coffees. The shop is small, cozy, and a comfortable place to relax.
I ordered a capa and a double shot on the side. I don't normally do milk drinks but wanted to check out their frothing. The milk had very nice microfoam and was quite pleasant. While I was drinking the capa, I talked with the barista as she prepared my double shot. She made a comment about my drinking the capa Italian style (i.e. standing up) which gave me hope that she had some coffee knowledge and was not a flunky. My hope rang true. They serve Black Cat and she even did the "Chicago Chop". I watched her dose and tamp the shot which was done with attention and care. The portafilter was bottomless and I watched a beautiful shot develop on the La Marzocco. The shot was pure heaven! I paid, told her the shot was excellent and tipped her well.
I will return, though not often as it is well out of the way for me. I have already praised the shop to some people I know in the area and hopefully those people will appreciate the coffee. Well done Brew Mountain, I only wish there was a comparable shop in my city.

I stopped in again on the way home and got very similar results. According to the barista that was working, he's new. While he wasn't as fast as a seasoned barista he was definately taught the basics well and it was obvious he cares. Kudos.

Kurt,
I am blessed that you took time to visit the shop today! While I am bummed I wasn't there to meet you, I know Sarah and Matt were stoked. Please let me know when work brings you this way again. We can pull together a tasting table of reserve coffees or sample some amazing teas!
Once again - it was our pleasure to prepare a little Cat for you! Sure hope to do it again soon.
Sincerely Ron Robinson 540.751.1111
PS - lemme know if you need some bulk espresso for home :)
