I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up that we'll be have a very special coffee at our weekly cupping this Friday.  We usually don't announce our coffees ahead of time, but we wanted to let people know so that they can have a chance to try "The Esmeralda".

Some of you may know about the Geisha varietal from Hacienda La Esmeralda in Boquete, Panama that has set a number of records in the coffee world recently for price.  Here is a link to a page from their website with a great explanation of the coffee.

From the website

We do know that this coffee is NOT the result of intense selection – a common requirement for great coffees. We actually export a higher percentage of cherry picked in this coffee than in the rest of the farm. Likewise, it is not just coffee from the peak of the harvest – the quality seems to hold up from beginning to end. It is also not a ‘curiosity’ coffee – i.e. one that has passed through the digestive tract of an odd animal or originated in a isolated island in the middle of the sea. We suspect and hope that it will be a coffee that can be multiplied in Boquete to a point where reasonable volumes can be obtained.

The cupping starts, as always, at 10am and usually lasts about an hour (and a little more if you linger around for espresso shots, etc.)  If you're interested and need directions, check our website for directions, or if you're lost, give me a call -- 678-358-6114.

This is also an interesting link -- http://www.haciendaesmeralda.com/Placesyoucanbuy.htm .  These are the prices that "we" in the coffee community paid for the coffee...green.  Wow.  As an aside, the lots are not necessarily divided by quality, but by their harvest time, location on the farm, or sorting method (peaberry, etc). http://www.haciendaesmeralda.com/Auction.htm

mmmmmmmm....most expensive coffee in the world.
