I will be in Sarasota from March 4 until March 7. Are there any good coffee house in Sarasota. I love to sit with a cup of coffee and a book. Any place to suggest?

I have a friend who lives on Longboat Key. I had an espresso at a small shop on Saint Amarands Circle. (probably spelled it wrong). As I remember he also makes gelato. I know the shop is on the circle, just don't know where exactly.

A new coffee shop has opened up on N.Tamiami Trail across from Ringling School of Art & Design. I am one of the Baristas. My co-workers are true coffee snobs. You have a choice to kind of Espresso. The default espresso is Avier...Anyone interested in an espresso taste test email me. Eric

I just moved to Sarasota. This was an old post (2004). Please update. Is that coffee shop on North Tamiami still there? Does anyone have an opinion on Java Dawg?

There is a shop in St. Armand's Circle opening up soon called Perq Coffee Bar. They have a Slayer and a Faema lever machine, and will be pulling shots from places like Coava (confirmed) and possibly Heart and a few others.
I don't know of any other good shops in Sarasota, however, if you would like to make the drive up to Tampa, I work part-time in a shop/roastery called Buddy Brew Coffee. There's Axum Coffee in Winter Garden, Barnies Coffee Kitchen in Orlando, Panther in Miami, and Volta in Gainesville. Unfortunately Florida is a bit of a coffee wasteland.

Perq is open in the Hillview area. Google it and you'll find the address. I have not yet been there, but it was highly recommended by a neighbor of ours who is somewhat of a coffee geek himself. Next time we're in SRQ, I plan on checking them out. My neighbor, who travels the country each week for his job (in a similar industry), stated it was one of the best coffee shops he had been to.
