Yeah, reasons are pretty simple. Probably best to keep them off board but profitability was the issue.
Southpointe will need financial backing of course. Finding the right investor seems key and I've spoken to a few interested parties. I simply don't have the equity to do it myself.

Check out the website. I haven't had a chance to stop in yet because it never seems to be open... but if you look at the photos you'll see their... ahem... espresso machine. Looks a bit pricey too. Probably because they're getting Stumptown beans overnighted from Portland :)

We're wondering what machine that is. Appears to have all the bells and whistles of a Simpfonia or Evolution, but the styling is different. Will have to check that out next time we're headed to RD... which is tomorrow!
Layout looks nice. Reminds me of a place I used to go to all the time back in CT.
If you look at the photo with the close up of the cheese display case, all the way back in the corner (upper right in photo) it looks like that might be another small one group - seems there are small foam cups stacked there as well.
updated: drove by on wed. afternoon, didn't see anyone inside, couldn't tell if it was open or not, so kept driving. maybe next time...

Isn't Stumptown very particular about who gets their coffee, requiring training and thing like that? If so, hopefully the shop will be serving up some good stuff (although it would be nice if they weren't running an automatic machine). It's interesting seeing the diversity of beans that we have here in Pittsburgh, with Intelli, Stumptown, Counter Culture, La Prima, and others. This certainly isn't D.C., where it seems like Counter Culture is the only beans allowed in the district.

I was joking about the stumptown coffee- I have no idea what they use. The reason I posted that is because chef Greg, while picking my brain the one day, kept talking about stumptown and how his friend who has a restaurant uses it. He asked me if they were good and I said yes. He asked me what kind of espresso machine we used, how much it cost, what the clover was, how much it cost, how much our coffee cost, how he wanted to have the best coffee, yada yada. I think he was just getting ideas and was excited that day to chat. Something happened between that little convo and the installation of the "SUPER" auto. I also found the prices to be a bit high for something that some of the cork factory residents could probably replicate in their own kitchens- which led to my overnight shipment comment. I have a very dry sense of humor.

I was in the Strip yesterday and intended to stop by Cioppino's but got kinda' "rushed" as it was getting past 4:00 PM...so I ended up just picking up my usual week's coffee beans at La Prima roastery and then going to their 21st St. bar for a couple of shots.

So, I hear through the http://www.aldocoffee.com grapevine that the MARBC is going to be held in Cranberry? Really sounds like we'll be getting some training/practicing times up here at the C&T, since we are outfitted with an NS Aurelia, the competition machine this year.
