I'm not a fan of joes...but can someone suggest a decent spot *really close to bleecker/carmine* where I can get a decent shot and or coffee. Just need to meet someone in that area for coffee...

Might be too late for your needs, but the Gray Dog is right there on Carmine, just south of Bleecker and I like their coffee. I wouldn't recommend it as an espresso bar though. If you don't like Joe I think you'll have to hoof a little for a real espresso: 9th Street in Chelsea Market (16th and 9th Ave) or Grumpy's on 20th b/t 7th and 8th Ave, Everyman on 14th and 4th, or Gimme on Mott near Prince.
