Hello hunts, I live in Totowa, NJ and I get my coffee beans from a company in Saint paul ,Minnesota. Their prices are good but as you said the shipping is the problem. I know a wholesaler in Staten Island, NY that their prices average from $3.00 to $3.50 a pound with the exception of the Hawaian Kona and the Jamaican blue mountain coffees, if you buy by the bag which means 100/110 pounds a bag.

I usually buy 50 pounds a shot for my son and I, and we like the Indian Mansoon malabar AA and the Kenia AA, both coffees have low acidity content and good flavor with a sweet after taste, they make terrific espresso shots with lots of crema.

How much do you pay for your beans at Vivace?, and what kind of coffee beans do you usually buy?

Did you say you have a Clover???  I've been looking for a Starbucks that has one, but no luck.  And you also have Intelli Black Cat?  Fantastic!  I'm definitely going to drop on by when I'm in the area!

Yes a Clover (and it makes great coffees), one of two in NJ. We also tried Intelli's new single origin espresso last night (got a pound of it), awesome. I think we will try to carry it for a while (its a bit more expensive then the Black Cat), tasted great as a shot and in the latte and cappuccino.

Ask for Rich or Joe and tells use your from CG.

Rich,

You folks at Ridge Coffee Company have a website? Also, you mentioned your one of two places in NJ that has a Clover; is the other place Rojo's or is it somewhere else? Just curious...

All the best!

Hi Rancilio, I used to order about 1LB of beans from Vivace (or two 1/2 LB bags) for my espresso drinks.  Since I'm the only coffee drinker in the household, it usually takes me at least a month to finish 1LB!  I do use a foodsaver container, which helps to keep it fresh longer.

For Vivace, I get the Vita Blend and the Dolce Blend for $6.50 for 1/2 LB bag and is the best espresso, latte, cappaccino I have ever had while I was visiting Seattle.  I've had Intelli Black Cat before, and Vivace is still my personal favorite.  Anyone carrying Intelli and have a Clover must be serious about their coffee, so I am definitely swinging by your store when I'm in the neighborhood, cornercafe!

I keep hearing all the hype about Clover and how it is so damn good that Starbucks actually purchased that company, but yet I cannot locate any Starbucks that have a Clover.  You would think they would equip all their stores with the Clover, no?  Anyway, I definitely must have a cup from the Clover when I'm in Ridgewood!

It's a bit of a hike, but if you're around Leonardo, Jersey Shore Coffee Roasters is pretty good.  Of course, it depends on who's working.   I haven't been there in about two years (don't live out that way), but if the owner/roaster is working, he pulls a pretty good shot has plenty of fresh roasted coffee for purchase and likes to talk coffee-talk.

Starbucks have rolled it out in some stores located in Seattle, LA and Boston (from what I've heard). Coffee is amazing off it. We serve 4 Single origin beans on the clover (from Intelli, Novo and Ecco). The new Columbia from Novo is real good.

We will be carrying Intelli new single orgin espresso starting later this week. I think we ordered 5 pounds. We tasted some last week, it was great. Went very well as a shot and in drinks.

If anyone wants, let me know and I'll order the 12oz bags. You can pick them up at the store and save on shipping.

Just as a side note. We just won the 2009 Best in Bergen - Coffee House from 201 magazine. Its in the Febuary issue. The latte art pictured in the magazine was done by my son.

Also, it will take a while for the Clovers to be rolled out. They were hand made. Before Sb got them, there were in only 90 coffee (dont know how exact that is) shops in the US. About 250 deployed worldwide. Only two in NJ.

They do require care, so I dont know if they will really survive SB's.

My personal take (a notion shared by many others) is that ultimately Starbucks bought the Coffee Equipment Company to kill the Clover as a competitive threat. I don't expect them to last long as a part of Starbucks' menu. The current economy provides a ready excuse to not roll them out any further and to let them fade into nostalgia for what might have been.

That will leave only a select few out there standing as the holy grail....like Ridgewood Coffee Company!

I look forward to visiting your shop, Rich. I'm only about a half hour away in Chester, NY and get down your way relatively often. It will be nice to add quality espresso to cheap full-serve gas as (partial) justification for the trip.

LOL, being a Queens then LI boy, I was very used to pumping my own gas. Now in NJ for 10 years I am spoiled at the full service.

Look forward to seeing you at the shop.
