Happy holidays everyone. I'm new here and very pleased to find the site. New to the area and we are desperate to find a good local coffee roaster with a good selection. We are willing to drive a bit but hope to learn about anything from Boston to the south. Thanks in advance for your input.

They may be a bit too far north for you, but I can't recommend anyone more than Barismo in Arlington, MA. If you call ahead they can prepare an order for you.

Thanks Christian! What's another 15 minutes or so of driving in New England? I noticed you have the Rancilio Silvia. How do you like it? I'm in the market for a machine. Actually had a Gaggia Baby Twin and returned it in the first week. Awful. I'm looking for good steaming power. How dry is the steam from your machine? Thanks.

The steam is just OK. Actually it is my main frustration with Silvia. I can get microfoam when I try, but honestly I am just this week making an upgrade step to an HX machine so I can steam and brew at the same time. Shots from Silvia are good if you can get the temperature right by surfing (or if you have a PID; I don't).

I do not have the free cash for a new machine, so I am getting a used Isomac. If I were buying a new one... I don't know... I'm sure you can find good advice from other forum members about that.
A trustworthy friend just referred me also to Redeye Roasters in Hingham, MA. I have never had their beans. Their website is down right now but it is supposed to be back up in the next day or two.

Good to hear. I've recently done some work in Hingham so i'll have to try it on my next visit. Where did you find the used machine? I'd go that route as well due to $$ constraints!

Redeye is mail-order or delivery only, I do not think they have a physical storefront. Barismo does have a small retail shop, though.
I think forums like this one are the best place to find used equipment from a reliable source. Craigslist might work, too. I missed a Pasquini Livia 90 for a very low price on Craigslist a month or so ago...
