Hi everyone. I am new to the area and am totally unable to find a place for good coffee. I have done some searching only to find that the place most people recommended (Murky Coffee) is now closed in VA. Does anyone know of any good places around Falls Church or Arlington? I tried Greenberry's in McLean, but found their americano almost the same as starbuck's. Any place I can drive to would be great! I would also be willing to make a trip into DC just to check out a good coffee place. Thanks in advance!

Grape and Bean (Counter Culture and Novo. Wine shop with a Clover. Does not serve espresso.) Northside Social (Counter Culture) Bocatto Gelato (Stumptown. Better to take the Hairbender home, though.)
DC:
Peregrine Espresso (Counter Culture) Chinatown Coffee Company (Intelligentsia the last time I was there) SOVA (Intelligentsia the last time I was there) Dolcezza Gelato (Wrecking Ball at the Dupont location. Highly recommended) Big Bear Cafe (Counter Culture but it's been a couple years)

Thanks a lot for the recommendations!
I have found and saved each of their locations in my phone to check them out later. So far I only got out to try Bocatto Gelato. I had no idea what you meant by Stumptown and Hairbender untill I got there (I actually assumed it was located in an area called Stumptown). It was the best I have had since moving to the USA, so far anyway. I will be checking out each place one by one. Thanks again!
Also, any take on a place called Beanetics Coffee Roasters in Annandale? I happened to come accross it and was wondering if it was any good.

These are great info! I wish there are some good ones near Fairfax or Centreville.. Why are they all in Arlington/Alexandria? :(
I have been going to Peregrine Espresso in DC and I think the latte is too strong for me. I just ask for single-shot and it's perfect.. Almost worth the hassle of dealing with traffics to get to DC.
I second Northside. Was just visiting DC/Arlington last week and went searching for Murky's, to find out Northside has replaced them. Same location. Very nice.

There is a coffee shop that is still "under the radar". It is The Silk Road Café @ the Mandarin Oriental Hotel (1330 Maryland Ave. SW, Washington, DC). They serve PT's AND Intelligentsia. I was there last evening, and had a great conversation with the owner - Bruce White. Their espresso was really, really good.

Try Caffe Amouri in Vienna. He's been open about 9 months, roasts in-house and seems like he knows what he's doing. Staff was trained reasonably well on espresso extraction, but weren't too knowledgeable in general ... owner, OTOH, was clued in.

Re: Bruce White at Silk Road - he lacks integrity and is completely unreliable. He claims to be an "espressos machine repairman" by hobby. This apparently means taking people's expensive equipment, sitting on it for literally months, failing to return calls, emails, or SMSs, and promising to get it to you by "next week" over and over and over again (though he can't manage to repair the machines, he does work in time to go to Kennedy Center events, visit relatives in New York, take weekend trips, etc. - which he actually tells you over the phone when you call in desperation to ask about the status of your beloved equipment). I haven't seen my Italian espresso machine in over 2 months. Now he won't take my calls. This guy and his cafe are to be avoided at all costs.
