It's a sad and common phenomenon.  A lonely coffeegeek, in a bureaucratic town, almost reduced to tears at the quality of coffee and discourse.  How can those silly Democrats care about the deficit when I can't even get a macchiato with decent microfoam?  Why do those pig-headed Republicans care about the deterioration of America's moral fibre when most of the shots I get take 10 seconds to extract and are as pale as the stone on a government building?  Is there no hope for us, for our city, for our country?!?!

Well yes there is.  A bit of e-mailing with a couple of other geeks in the area leads me to propose a gathering of D.C. area coffeegeeks at Murky Coffee in Capitol Hill?  Nick Cho, the owner, is a poster here on CG and from what I've heard, the coffee there is good enough to make Karl Rove kiss Ted Kennedy.

I wanted to throw this open and see when people might be free and if there's interest.  To get the ball rolling, I propose the 20th or 27th of June, Sundays both, as a time when the shop might be less crowded.

I'm cool with some coffeegeek gatherin'.

The 20th is Father's Day... the 27th could work.

If you guys wanna start at 7pm, that's after we close on Sunday, and you can play around with our 3-group Linea semi-auto and play with some milk.  Heck... bring your own beans and play around with that.

Whaddayathink?

Nick

I'm in.  We've settled on the 27th?  I hadn't made it to the east coast area of the forums.  Thanks to flydhest for coming to find me on other threads.  :)

I live outside the beltway so I'm wondering if there is parking near Murky.  I could park and metro, of course.

June 27th . . . going once, going twice . . .

a1batr0ss, there is usually some parking, but you might have to do laps around a few blocks to find it and with weekend crowds and tourists, it could be a bit of a pain.  When I go to Eastern Market, I usually find a parking space within 4 or 5 blocks.   That said, I'll likely be biking down.  It's a good day when I don't have to sit in a car.

Anybody for or against the 27th??

ammendment, if we decide to take Nick up on his generous offer of plaing around with the Linea (which I wholeheartedly endorse) then parking may be a lot easier at 6:30 to 7:00

On a different note, I know that krzyhobo roasts.  Anybody else?  I propose that roasters bring their espresso blends.  Even if we don't try them out there, it would be fun to swap and sample.

Hope you don't mind me chiming in, but how about coordinating a date with Nick, setting it and then just telling all-comers when to be there.

Pretty much if you leave the decision to a committee, it will be September before a date has been set.

If you want the 27th, work it out with Nick and then let's roll.

ono,

Fair enough.  I guess I was reading into Nick's post above saying that the 27th would work.  I'll drop him an e-mail and ask if he can post here confirming.
