EspressoFest 2004 is now full. We look forward to seeing those of you who are already signed up on the 20th. For everyone else, thank you for your interest, and stay tuned to our website -- we'll let you know how it went!
Please join us from 9-5 on Saturday, November 20th at Counter Culture for a home espresso enthusiast experience extraordinaire. It will be a great opportunity try out espresso machines, improve your barista skills, check out our roasting facility, or just swap tips and techniques with other interested consumers. This event is designed especially for non-professional espresso devotees.
Here is some of what to expect:
Commercial coffee roasting demos
Espresso education sessions
Brewing fundamentals
Home and commercial espresso equipment testing
Home roasting and blending tips
And the list goes on and on...
Companies donating equipment include Chris' Coffee Service, Whole Latte Love, and 1st-Line. They will be offering special pricing to those who purchase demonstration machines that day! The event is open to the public and free of charge, but space will be limited--let us know if you're interested in attending by emailing Daryn@counterculturecoffee.com
Much of what is planned is derived from CCC's three-day barista training course. On a related note, they've bought out the printing shop next door and plan to use the space for a SCAA-certified barista training facility. The EspressoFest will use their current cupping lab / espresso breakroom + their roasting warehouse to setup in.
BTW, I've offered my application as an instructor. No answer yet (*sniff*).
Free is definitely good! I'm notifying wife, daughter and grandson to block me out for that date.
Now if'n the creeks don't rise and the snows hold off.
I wonder if I can get some other Atlanta Coffee Geeks interested?
I have Counter Culture in my GPS so I ought to be able to get within 10 feet without help. From there, I'll just follow my nose.
When I demonstrate my technique and they learn that you trained me, they will either hire you on the spot for an enormous sum of money or blacklist you forever depending upon how I am feeling that day.
Well, Mike Perry let me play with his roaster and Counter Culture will let me play with their machines. Is their such a thing as an SCAA certified dilettante?
Too bad I already have a machine, I find it hard to resist a bargain.
How about a yard sale table in the corner where we can bring coffee equipment that we no longer have any use for and sell it for yard sale prices. I have a couple of Moka Pots that I'd like to get rid of. I'd swap them for a crotchless portafilter for my S1. heh heh.
How about a home roast off. Everyone brings their iRoast, Z&D, blow torch, bbq grill , Dietrich etc and Counter Culture gives us each a half pound of beans. We have 30 minutes to roast. Then the judges cup the results and the winner gets bragging rights and is the 2004 Counter Culture Home Roasting Champion and also gets a free SCAA cMembership.
Here you go. I am an interested Atlanta Coffee Geek. I can't commit just yet; my work schedule needs a little fine tuning first.

Directions: 4911 South Alston Avenue, Durham. If you are at the 54/55 intersection (there is a 54/55 exit from I-40) go on 54 East to the next signal. That is Alston Avenue. Go south 3/4 mile, and CCC is on the left in a brown warehouse-style building. The main entrance is at the back left corner of the building.
I'll post additional details like contact information and proposed sessions in the coming weeks.
