Does espresso exist in Albequerque? Good friends are moving from Dallas to NM in a matter of weeks and trying to figure out what is available as far as local coffee shops. She's a former Starbucks PBTC turned barista, and he's just hairy. She might even be looking to get behind the PF again.
Please let us know if there is something available out that way besides Big Green.
I go there usually two or three times a year as I have family there and my folks now own a house in Corrales. I've tried a few places to no avail. Some enterprising geek could probably make a fortune if they opened a real roasterie with good espresso drinks there. The city is begging for it. Or at least I am.

New Mexico's best espresso and coffee is in Las Cruces. Milagro Coffee y Espresso, owned by by alt.coffee and Coffeegeek resident Bernie Digman. I had the distinct pleasure of spending a few hours in his shop last year, and it was an amazing experience. Wonderful coffee and espresso, and Bernie is one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet. I highly recommend stopping by, if you find yourself going through.

A bit off topic but how did you like Las Cruces? I'm considering relocating there (I'm a physician) and will be there in two weeks to check it out. Where is this coffee shop you speak of? Is there a good source for freshly roasted beans in LasCruces?

Hi folks, I live in Socorro, an hour south of Albuquerque on the Interstate
My favorite cafe is Satellite on Central in the Nob Hill area. It's pretty good. There are 2-3 other Satellite locations, which are more variable. I don't know of any really dedicated coffee havens - the ones I used to go to are Fred's Bread and Bagels and the Gold Coast(?) which was at Mountain Road somewhere around 14th St.
For beans I like Whiting Bros. on Osuna, west of I-25 or Red Rock on Jefferson. Red Rock there is also the only center I know of for specialty high-end machines (Rancillio and others). It's not really a retail location, but they've been willing to sell beans to me there. The guy who seems to run it has a pretty strong Italian accent, usualy a good sign in the espresso business, right?
In Socorro I'm a regular at Martha's Black Dog, which has coffee at least as good as any I know of in ABQ.
