What are the best coffee houses in the Portland (OR) / Vancouver (WA) area? I've been loving the espressos at Stumptown, and wonder where else I can find good coffee?

I don't think your going to find any place as good as or better than StumpTown. If you find an equal, there is a good chance they serve Stumptown beans.

Billy is working at Lava Java through December. Then he starts work at Stumptown in January (after some training). And Phuong at Lava Java also makes a killer latte (or any drink). She's the owner. She placed 4th at WRBC.

huh? what? you talking to me?
Yeah, I work at Lava Java till the 24th of December, which is in Ridgefield not Battleground. I mention this cause there is a "Lava Java" there, and it definately has nothing to do with us. Just a coincidence of names.
Anyway...
Some really good news for anybody in the Vancouver area! For the longest time I thought that our cafe was the only decent cup of coffee in the Vancouver area... but there is a new guy on 13th and Main. The place is called Paradise Cafe, and one of the guys that own it came by our shop the other day.
From our conversation I could see that he was passionate about great coffee and wanted to do it well. I hope folks here will get a chance to swing by and check em out.
A couple of my baristi have stopped by there in the past few, and said that it is indeed good. One said that an espresso he had was a tad too sour, but then, the owner said he was having troubles with his HX.
The espresso they serve is Umbria. I have yet to run down there and check them out (no car :( ), but it's worth a shot.
So Koala... come on up! I work five more days at Lava Java then I'm off to Ptown. You can catch me in the mornings until wednesday (save Sunday).
Oh... I heard that Haven on Division is serving Zoka now... I think that they are the first it Ptown to serve it. So if you stop by let us know how it is.

Well ... Stumptown is by far the best coffee I've found in Portland. I love the atmosphere, the people, the coffee, everything; and the prices are even good. ;-) I also like Pete's Coffee ... it's in NE Portland. I haven't been there in a while, though. I stopped at this little shop on Fremont last summer, Jim and Patty's or something ... it was OK. Nothing seems to beat out Stumptown, though.
