At Flying Goat in Santa Rosa they now use a GB5. This Ticini double ristretto was very smooth with good body but just ok complexity. Still a nice enjoyable shot. (Click for larger image)

Had a nice latte at Flying Goat. In Santa Rosa there are lots of these colorful Peanut statues. Adds lots of character to the downtown area. (Click for larger image)

Gary, now I'll have to get back up your way as soon as possible. My recent trip addressed clients from Richmond South. Next trip I think I'll work the North Bay area and revisit Napa. Oh dear, I'm sorry to have to do this, but please don't anyone go to Flying Goat on my say so....at least not until I get back to you. I stopped in this morning and the folks at the bar were unfamiliar to me and apparently to their jobs. I had always thought it was maybe true that lots of milk could cover up a bad shot, but....it's a lie. A bad shot can ruin even a whole lot of milk. I'm not really a good enough taster to tell you what went wrong, but it just tasted bitter (? front of the tongue) and thin and....for lack of a better word: undrinkable. Anyway, I've done my civic duty and emailed FG to suggest they check on their staff there, and I'll let you know if/as/when I hear back. (I just got an autoresponse saying they got my email....more later) Meanwhile, I'm going back to Sawyer's News for my next out-of-the-house cappa. Susan

I like the Flying Goat ... any idea where the name came from? I like the customers, the ambience, it's a nice, open space. The regular coffee of the day is great. My only complaints are that there is only one working electrical outlet to plug in my laptop, and they close daily at 6pm. I found I can park across the railroad tracks for free. Getting one parking ticket was one too many for me .... A'roma is nice, but no electrical outlets for laptops. In fact they threaten to throw you out if you use one of them! I agree, the Snoopy and Peanuts statues are cute. The town must have copied the Chicago Cows street exhibit from 1999/2000 (forget which year it was). Albuquerque NM did something similar with their Trail of Painted Ponies ... very nice.

This is what Flying Goat Looks like on the inside. Many large windows let in lots of daylight. It is very nice. I visit Flying Goat every time when I'm in Santa Rosa (or Healdsburg).

I did get a disappointing shot at Flying Goat. It was slightly astringent. Same baristas but shot was definately better three weeks ago. (Click for larger image)

While at Flying Goat I asked one of the baristas where the name Flying Goat came from. She told me about the legend that hundreds of years ago in Ethiopia some goats starting eating coffee bean berries. The goats got such a caffeine jolt that they started dancing. The goat herders checked out these berries and thus introduced coffee to the rest of the world. Since the name "Dancing Goat" was already used by someone else they named the coffee house "Flying Goat".
