Eek.  You're timing is off as I just had a very large run on coffee this weekend and we are waiting on our next order.  But we have a very nice Yirgacheffe as an SO on tap, as well as the above mentioned Ecco Organic Northern Italian Espresso.

So J-bone,
We're throwing in the Limu Semi-Washed as I type this. Come back soon and lemme throw down some, as the kids call it, "dank-as-hell" SO shots.

Exactly.

The only coffee I'll drink in Davis is my own.  I'd be coming to see you,  (all the way in Roseville) if Temple weren't so much closer.  I do look foreward to my next visit to Jays for the impeccable service and product though.

While at JavaJ I bought Ethiopian Sidamo roasted by PT coffee. Description says loaded with fruit flavors. So I pull some shots, get some tobacco but no fruit flavors. Then yesterday on Thursday I was at Broken Door in San Jose where they were pulling Sidamo SO ristretto shots (beans roasted by Blue Bottle). Very nice complex shots with chocolate but also no fruit. So I tried the PT Sidamo again, increased the brew water temperature and grind finer to get 0.8oz doubles in 30 seconds. Shots had no fruit but did turn out with nice complex flavors with chocolate. These were nice shots being only 0.8oz. It might be because Sidamo has low acidity that I have a hard time detecting the fruit flavors.

I also used the PT Ethiopian Sidamo to make drip coffee on a $10 coffeemaker from Walmart someone gave me for my birthday. I used my Rocky grinder and the coffee came out really nice but I also didn't taste fruit flavors.

From the PT's Coffee Website:

An exceptional Ethiopian coffee. This naturally processed (this means no water was used to wash away the fruit pulp from the parchment skin) has a floral aroma that is very much Tea-Rose-like. The flavor is mild with a gentle acidity and loaded with fruit flavors like cherry and and ripe apple. An almost over-ripe sweetness crowns the finish. If you liked our Harrar-Horse coffee in the past, you will truly enjoy this cup. The Natural process makes this an excellent cup!

This was an interesting coffee for me.  While I generally don't like anything with more than a hint of oil, this Sidamo tasted shockingly good as an SO Cappuccino.  Not a big shock, as the one place dark roasted coffee shines is in a lot of milk.  But as an SO shot or drip, it was too dark and not enough origin for my tastes.

As far as the fruit, I think they are describing a layer of fruit that is somewhat hidden behind the tobacco and dark chocolate notes.  Kind of like chocolate covered blueberry and blackberry.  It's there, but might be a little hidden for those of us whose palette's lean lighter.

We have gotten many fine coffees from PT's, but unfortunately this one did not live up to expectations.  We are very happy with PT's, and the Sidamo is not really a good example of their style.  However, we do have the Ecco Caffe Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Konga Co-op in stock right now, and will be getting some really awesome Ethiopians (including some Sidamo) from a variety of roasters just around the corner.

Hey Gary,
You should pick up some Kneebuckler from Barefoot (if they have any at the moment). Its a Sidamo "blend"...two different roast profiles. If you cant get any fruit outta that, then....I dunno what to tell ya. Its fuggin awesome though.

Barefoot isn't roasting Kneebuckler anymore, which is disappointing.  It was definitely my favorite espresso blend from Barefoot, but apparently they no longer are getting the Sidamo.
