While Adventure Roasters is in Tucson, they make it to the Farmer's Market in SV. I just picked up a bag of their espresso blend yesterday, as a matter of fact. If you really want to get to know Roasters in Tucson, Caffe Luce is on Park just N of University. That's pretty central, and everyone I know is East of there. Adventure is Kolb and Escalante-ish, but that's just their roastery, not their retail. Aaron (Roaster X) retails out of 'Safehouse' on Speedway E of Alvernon on the S side of the street, but he doesn't roast date anything under five pounds (last I heard). What are you looking for, fresh beans? I commercial supplier? Greens? There is Raging Sage, on Campbell, just N of Grant, and I have a buddy that roasts out of his apartment, but with more details I'd be better armed to get you where you want to go. How west is west?

Thank for the reply, I live in SV but I go to or through Tucson quite a bit so a good source near the freeway would be handy, If they come to the farmers market in SV all the better. Also I have a friend who is out on Gates Pass whom I'm hoping to convince that he needs some fresh roasted beans for his Master 5000 when I come over :)

Are you just looking for a source of beans, a source of greens, or someone to roast your coffee for a shop, or what? BTW, is there anyone making decent espresso down there yet? There were a coupla places with machines over the years, but they either sucked at it or closed down. Yer friend at Gates pass could do worse than to make it to the University area and get himself to Caffe Luce. Great roaster, great espresso blend, great folk. What more do you need? Also the closest to the freeway that I know. Exit on... wait, no there is construction there. OK, go to, no, they're working on that as well. So, if you get to.. no, dang, that's not closed but it's a half hour delay to get... well you can't get here from there. The best bet is to exit the Alvernon N and take that to the Aviation Highway (AZ 210W) towards downtown, and staying right-most where it deadends at Broadway. Once on Broadway, get left immediately to the left turn lane to get to Euclid. Take that left, and continue North on Euclid til you get to University. Go past University and take the very next right on 2nd St. Take 2nd two blocks up to Park Ave and take a right, and look for the 'Take Out Order Only' or some such parking space on the right, just past the bus stop sign, and then you'll see the Luce in front of you on the right. To park in the rear, keep your three bucks handy and take the right on Tyndall instead of Park offa 2nd, and pay the kid to park. Look for the shop that sells breakfast cereal (no, really, regular old General Mills and Post breakfast cereals, Cap'n Crunch, Sugar Pops, whatever) and Luce is just past that. you can get greens there too, if you call ahead and get someone that knows what to charge.

Well this friend and I are just looking for a source of fresh roasted bans for personal use right now but we are both intrigued by the idea of roasting our own. Just not sure yet what investment level it takes to do it proper. I'm still recovering from the escalation from "I want to make my own espresso" to "PID'd Silvia with Tranquilo grinder and myriad other gadgets and accessories". IF we had a good shop in SV I might not have bothered at all but all the little indie cafe's that had real espresso closed shortly after the the arrival of the Big Bad Mermaid. Of course now that I'm started I'm hooked on cappuccino first thing in the morning before I'm dressed so I guess there is no turning back. We now have 3 S-B's, 4 counting the one on Fort Huachuca and one more under construction. Bisbee has the Bisbee Coffee Co. which can be ok depending on who is working and there is a brand new addition to the High Desert Market the has 2 baristas from Denver that seem to be competent although I've only had a couple of shots there so far.
