Coffee lovers get your cupping spoons ready and your pallete warmed up. Edwin Martinez, third generation owner of our beloved Finca Vista Hermosa in Guatemala is visiting us along with his wife Nina. It is only one day and it is this Thursday morning.
To celebrate and give everyone a chance to meet Edwin Barefoot is holding a public cupping with Edwin at the Barefoot cafe at 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday May 29th. Join us as we cup all of Edwins wonderful Guatemala microlots. This is a rare chance to cup coffee with a coffee farmer. Be there early to get a space. Space is very limited!
Then all are welcome to join us at our new Barefoot Coffee Works at noon that same day for a presentation about the Finca Vista Hermosa farm and family. So at 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at 76 Sunol st in downtown San Jose Edwin and Nina will be giving a presentation and talk about their farm and their coffee. both events are free and open to all friends of coffee.

I really enjoyed the short time I was able to spend with the Barefoot crew and with Edwin and Nina. What a treat to meet such a great farmer. It is really generous of them to spend so much time with the public and for Barefoot to host this. Thanks for your hospitality Andy, and good luck with the new facility.

it was so darned nice to finally meet Nina Martinez as well after so many years of just meeting her husband.

I really appreciate the opportunity Andy gave us to meet with a coffee farmer. Thank you! But Andy, you didn't tell us that this was a blind cupping! Each coffee was given a number so no one knew the actual name of the coffee being cupped. I've cupped coffee once before but doing a blind cupping is just too scary for me. Still very interesting to observe and I learned a lot.

I did get this double ristretto pulled with Finca Vista Hermosa Guatemala Peaberry. Just like the description says it is an intense fruit bomb. Very nice shot! I had a chance to talk with Edwin and he explained to me how the very steep terrain on the Vista Hermosa farm results in different micro climates. So depending upon where the bean is grown the coffee will have a different flavor.

At the Barefoot Coffee Works Edwin Martinez gave a great presentation about the Finca Vista Hermosa farm in Guatemala. Lots of very interesting information about sorting the beans. Edwin really knows and cares a lot about the people who work on the farm. Edwin explained the differences between the cultures of Guatemala and the USA and how the Guatemalan culture benefits how the farm operates. To produce a high quality microlot is a lot of work since it requires careful picking, processing, sorting and keeping the beans of each microlot seperate. The workers on the farm are highly dedicated to do the best job they can to make great microlots. While at the Barefoot Coffee Works, Monica made for us an awesome tasting French Press coffee. Anyone know what beans were used? I'd like to buy some.

Hey, how about a little notice next time, huh Andy?! Sorry I missed it Edwin! At least I was able to come down and say hi to the 'Foot krew this weekend. Thanks for the great coffee. I vac potted it for my friends in Santa Cruz. They are already into coffee, and it still blew their minds.
