Hey CG'ers
JavaJ is kicking off our weekly friday music nights with a slurp!
We are calling our Friday music night JavaJ Counter Culture Fridays. Why? Because rather than just have live music, we are infusing our music nights with coffee events such as cuppings, tastings, lectures, home roasting, etc. And for our kick-off party we have something very interesting planned.
Miguel Meza of R. Miguel coffee will be on hand to walk through a tasting of his very rare and high end coffee. One such coffee happens to be the subject of much controversy. Yeah, that's right. Miguel's bringing the Monkey Spit.
Now, I have to admit, I am still a little skeptical. But a lot of Coffee Geeks with more stripes on their shirts than me have signed off on this one. The immediate association for a lot of people is that of Kopi Luwak, the weasel poop coffee. But where as Kopi Luwak is...well...crap, some very respected cuppers have scored this coffee in the high 90's. I am told by Miguel that this is also the first such coffee imported into the U.S.
All you other skeptics out there...can you say NorCal roadtrip?
In addition, Miguel will be bringing the most amazing Hawaiian coffee I have ever had, the Pele. This coffee was a collaboration between the producers, Miguel and coffeereview.com mastermind Kenneth Davids. All coffees prepared via siphon.
The party is free and there will be a lot of free goodies flowing. The R. Miguel tasting is separate, however, and will be $20 per flight.

See you all soon. The Monkey Parchment Just arrived from India this morning. i'm going to roast some up tomorrow and get it on the way to JavaJ. I'll be bringing a few other fun coffees to cup as well, Robusta, Liberica, plus the Pulped Natural version of Pele (exact same coffee from the same trees harvested at the same time as the Pele) and maybe a couple other surprises.
