After hearing they were serving Ecco Caffe and getting some serious espresso training, I stopped in at Gail Silverton's Gelato Bar today. Gail is the sister of Nancy Silverton (La Brea Bakery; Mozza; etc.). The Silverton's take culinary matters very seriously.
The espresso was very good, indeed. Plus they serve Nancy's pastries and superb gelato and sorbetto. 4342-1/2 Tujunga Ave., Studio City, CA. 818-487-1717.
(For fans of morbid Hollywood history, Robert Blake's wife met her untimely end at Vitello's across the street.)

I've been to Gelato Bar a couple of times. The gelato is great, but the espresso didn't impress me. Aroma Cafe down the street grinds coffee for each order and they make decent to better than average espresso drinks.
Additionally, morbid or not, Vitello's is a fantastic restaurant.

Went over there this weekend. The gelato was fantastic. I don't think they've switched to the new espresso setup though (there was still a sign up describing it as "coming soon" and when I asked, the waiter/barista named a coffee I can't recall offhand but wasn't any of the Ecco blends).

Went back on Wed. to find them serving Ecco now and selling the last of the Danesi in 5 lb bags - what a difference! Bought a shot for myself, followed by another after an hour, and an americano for the wife. The espresso was great, as were the americano and gelato. Two thumbs up.

Just stopped by and met the owners. They are very enthusiastic about getting the espresso right. The old machine was gone, replaced by a Synesso this very day.
