Thanks to the West Coast faithful for recommending Global Trends....

A small coffee shop in Mountain View.....
(off of Castro Street)

There was a laid back vibe to the coffee shop
I am waiting for my Blue Bottle bean but I missed the roast date so I have the jitters....hhehehe

I walked up into Global Trendz lookin' for BEANS.... no beans listed on their price boards

(so I asked.... do you have roasted beans)

not a blank stare but I must have miscommunicated b/c the look of confusion scared me for a sec.....

I re-iterrated what I was looking for and she made a couple of suggestions and here is where customer service jumped 100%

she had two shots pulled for me so i could tell the difference between shots... COLOR ME IMPRESSED... both were good

so I bought a half a pound of each

The names were a little hokey but MOST are...

1/2 lb of TigerWalk
1/2 lb of Jaguar

As I was leaving I noticed the Stumptown logo along with an article about them on the wall....

QUALITY choice for espresso in the Mountain View area....

I saw RED ROCK cafe on my way back to the freeway.... I will try them next time....

more news lata...

Global Blends is Third Wave, Red Rock Second Wave (when it comes to quality espresso). Dana St coffee house on Dana St in downtown Mountain View is Second Wave but they roast their own beans ($9.75/lbs) which make quite a good espresso on my Ziffaro.

Global Blends sometimes has Stumptown Hairbender beans but I prefer Abruzzo. They charge $13/lbs for beans which is similar if I would order two pounds of Hairbender beans + S&H from Stumptown.

Barefoot Coffee Roasters on Stevens Creek blvd, also Third Wave when it comes to espresso, has a new excellent espresso called Bossa Nova. Similar to the high quality ristretto/espresso at the top coffee houses in Seattle (or maybe even better). Barefoot Coffee Roasters blends and roasts their own beans. The owner Andy told me they they might have a Barista Jam in the Spring. Hope so.

Gary.

I believe i was the one who helped you that day.  Im glad you enjoyed ur espresso.  Just for kicks...its Global Blends not Global Trends...and we are much better then Red Rock.  When I moved into the area only 2 months ago I went to all of the coffee shops on Castro to see which one I would like to work at and Global Blends is by far the best =).

As Coral said we sometimes have Hairbender and Abruzzo espresso, but we also have Del Norte which i find very easy to work with.  The taste of hairbender and Abruzzo is amazing, but they can sometimes be alittle touchy =).

Also, Barefoot Coffee Roasters on Stevens Creek blvd is awsome too.  Ive been there on occation, go check them out when u have a chance.  (im not the global blens spokes person, just an honest opinion who works there)

If you have any questions or comments about Global Blends I would be happy to answer at the best of my knowlege.

Gary,

What do you mean by third wave and second wave.  Which is better?

I got the information from here:

http://coffeegeek.com/forums/espresso/general/23669

So in the San Francisco Bay Area, Starbucks, Peets and the zillions of independent coffee houses are Second Wave. Then there are a few coffee houses like Global Blends and Barefoot Coffee Roasters who make far superior espresso and they are Third Wave.

If Pete's is from the 1960's
Vivace is the late 1980's then we are talking about est. dates not relative coffee expertise....

Pete's and Tully's becoming franchises doesn't make it second wave...being est. in 1960's makes it Second wave.....

Starbucks would be second wave because that was before the 80s when it was est. I have a cup here that says 70s.....

major coffee companys MJB etc. is First Wave

60s thru early 80s is Second Wave

late 80s thru today is Third Wave

It doesn't mean that Second Wave coffee shops can't compete with the renaissance of the Third wave.....

(this is what I am getting from reading this stream of thought on waves...am I right)
