Being a part time resident of Santa Barbara, I have searched high and low for just a decent cup of coffee....let alone anything resembling espresso. After each stay in Santa Barbara, I would return to Santa Cruz , head over to Verve, and plead with Ryan and Colby to please expand to Santa Barbara. Last week I was given the news that The French Press at 1101 State Street @ Figueroa St. in downtown Santa Barbara had just opened and will be serving Verve coffee! I won't get back to SB until early August, so if you're in the area, check it out and let us know...

Went in for an espresso this morning.  Best Espresso in SB.
Bought some Verve "The Sermon" we will see if I can replicate it as well at home.

Agreed that they are the best coffee/espresso in town.  been in a few times now, and can't be happier.

anyone looking for excellent coffee and espresso in the area should not miss it. i just hope the locals haven't damaged their taste buds too much with *$'s and RoCo's burnt brews to recognize the quality

I have had luck pulling the Sermon at 202 degrees, 18-21 grams (depending on the age), rather fine grind, with the shots pulling around 1.25 oz at 24-26 sec for sweet, tasty shots!!

Hopefully that helps you replicate the tastiness you get every day.

Cheers,
JT

Stopped by The French Press 3x this weekend based on recommendations here and it is terrific. Julia and Todd, the proprietors, were very friendly and served Verve Sermon which had great crema and lots of citrus notes. Atmosphere is bright and friendly, and the La Marzocco is gorgeous.

Highly recommend checking it out, they are head and shoulders above any other coffee place in Santa Barbara I've found to date.

Last Friday I drove to Los Angeles for a long weekend getaway and stopped in Santa Barbara to visit the new French Press coffee house. Very nice location on busy State Street with lots of foot traffic.

Very pretty inside with beautiful counters. Last time I met Julia was when she worked for Luluís in Santa Cruz.

I had both a Verve Sermon double espresso and double ristretto. I really liked the ristretto shot which had a lot of flavor and complexity.

I had both a macchiato and a latte made with the Sermon blend. I liked the macchiato the best, which had a very nice bittersweet chocolate flavor.
