For future Oregon coast espresso seekers:
We started near the north end of town, working our way south, sampling what we found. We were consistently disappointed until we stumbled into Sleepy Monk Coffee Roasters (across from the Haystack). They have their tasting room open on Fri/Sat/Sun. We stayed with the espresso (I had shots, wife had americanos). House roast is in the chocolate-caramel vein. I watched milk drinks being poured, and every one of them left with art -- even in huge tall travel mugs.
There might be even better further south, but we didn't find it.
It was a drive from our hotel, but worth it each day for the espresso.

Yep, I like Sleepy Monk. For those who don't know, they're an organic roaster in Cannon Beach, OR. I've only tried them a couple times, but overall impressed. They even offer triple ristrettos; when have you seen that on a menu? There isn't much on the oregon coast so I too was happy to find them. Espressomap notes a couple spots in Astoria, but haven't been to them (yet).

Thanks for the tip! My wife and I escaped from the kids yesterday (a close friend's Christmas present to us was to watch our 3 kids for a night) and we spent the night at a great little place on the south side of Cannon Beach (Sea Sprite lodgings). I ran out for drinks this morning before making breakfast in our suite, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the drinks there. The baristas were very friendly and approachable. The lattes I got were tasty and had a good balance of flavor. The milk was steamed nicely too. By far the best espresso drinks on the Oregon coast that I know of. I would like to know if there are any decent places in Seaside if anyone knows......
