I just got done bitching and moaning in another thread about the lack of good espresso in Oakland. So then of course today I stumbled across Remedy Cafe on Telegraph in Temescal (www.remedyoakland.net). The cafe isn't open yet, but the owner, Todd, is out on the sidewalk every morning with his la marzocco and his clover, serving Ritual coffees. I had the baby with me in her carrier (a.k.a. full baby-as-napkin position) so I declined to drink anything hot. But I had an iced latte that was pretty terrific. (although I know it is probably sacrilege to admit to that here...) I'll be going back tomorrow with the stroller so I can try the real stuff... but it looks promising.

Try Subrosa, on 40th St. near Webster (next to Manifesto bicycles). They are serving 4 Barrel and doing a very fine job with it. I've been there several times and had good shots, capps, and coffee brewed by the cup with the SweetMarias Clever Coffee Dripper. The quality is pretty much equal to what I've had at 4 Barrel.

I just came back from Remedy and it was fantastic. I had an espresso and a cap and both were excellent. The first shot ran a bit fast and was poured down the drain (always a good sign). The second was my espresso -- thick, intense, lingering, delicious. They're serving Ritual's High Striker. Great addition to Oakland -- highly recommend.
