Philz Coffee has a status as the local favorite coffee house on 24th street in the Mission. Philz has been around for decades. Gets good rating on Yelp, and since located only a half block from Haus, I decided to visit.

Exactly why I hate Yelp.  And Yelpers for that matter.  >:P

I don't know about decades? Different  incarnations of Philz has been around a long time. I  remember being a chip vendor in the mid 90's when the location was Gateway Market, a corner liquir store. Phil then put his finger in the air and decided  to be a natural food store. The coffee bit was his latest and obviously most successful idea yet.

The main thing Phil is concerned with is green, and I don't mean coffee beans. He is a very personable guy  though.

View from the kiosk, which IMO is the prettiest in San Francisco.

Very nice tasting espresso. The Slayer shot tasted smoother and was more mellow with deep flavor compared to the FourBarrel espresso blend pulled on the La Marzocco's Mistral.

This awesome tasting FourBarrel espresso blend shot pulled on the La Marzocco's Mistral tasted even better than the same blend pulled on the Slayer.

Scott told me that FourBarrel plans to use this GS/3 and Versalab grinder to pull any roasted beans they have as an espresso. Totally cool!! Can't wait for that.
