All these places coming in So Cal. Makes me a happy girl

Blue Bottle is coming to Venice and Culver City!

I see lots of bits here and there about other new places, not necessarily from out of the area, but new all together. Not seen many comments about them here yet, for example Home Brewed in Pasadena

Love to hear where in the LA area people have tried that is new, and what they liked and didn't like.

The world needs more outstanding coffee.

Had intelligentsia in Venice recently. .. Didn't like it.  Nice folks though.... But for all the hype it was a bit of a let down.  I had a standard espresso. Meh.  Shot was quite bitter for high end espresso and it was also thin..    Also ordered a regular coffee. . Meh.  Will try again next time. Whoever made my shot was not terribly skilled...

It certainly was better than peets, Starbucks and other chains but it is probably an insult that I said that. ... (sorry!)

Very cool building though.. Just was hoping to be dazzled by them but i wasn't.

G&B Grand Central Market is well worth a visit (and probably one of the more famous ones). Just a booth but fun people watching.
I also like Handsome coffee roasters, again down town LA.

Tourist here so can't comment on consistency.

If you're in my neighborhood (DTLA), there's Handsome Coffee Roasters and Stumptown Coffee Roasters.. Both serve some very good coffee.

Tried some espresso today at Blue Bottle's Caffe Central. Very disappointing... Lacked depth, mouthfeel, and very short on clarity, as charred flavors overwhelmed cup.  I knew the shot was going to be crap even before it touched my lips, while watching the barista pull the shot.

Have you tried Cafe Demitasse at 2nd and San Pedro? Aside from the fact that Russel, who's their roastmaster, and Frank, the manager, are both CG members, I've been pretty favorably impressed with their coffee. Haven't been to the other location yet, but from where I am in Mid-City, Little Tokyo is easier.

+1  I've had some good espresso at Demitasse on a few occasions.  Good place with people who care about coffee.

Haven't been to Demitasse yet, heard it's good - owners are interested in coffee, that's a positive note.  I love Intelligentsia, but unfortunately I have been underwhelmed by the Sunset Blvd location. I've been to a couple of their Chicago locations including their Roastery, and it seemed better there (although I was on vacation, and everything tastes better on vacation!).  I've been to Luxxe and Balconi (both in WLA), and I wanted to like them, but didn't. Maybe I'm just old and cranky! :-).

I do like Espresso Profeta in Westwood (although I haven't been though in a while) - never had a bad cup there - some coffeegeeks don't like that you cant get your straight espresso to go. I'm ok with that though.

I don't live in LA any longer so someone else will have to report on the new shops - I hear there are lots - but really nothing in the SF Valley?
