The WBC sanctioned 2005 Canadian National Barista Championship in Toronto was held on June 13 – 14, 2005 at the Canadian Coffee & Tea Expo in Toronto! Baristi from around Canada participated in this national event. Grand Prizes included a free trip to Bern, Switzerland representing Canada in the 2006 World Barista Championship in April, a Championship Trophy, a single group espresso machine from Krups and a beautiful engraved tamper from Reg Barber. Runner Up received a beautiful plaque and a Reg Barber tamper. Third place was awarded a plaque and a Reg Barber engraved tamper. Fourth through Sixth each received beautiful finalist plaques and a Krups grinder/coffee maker. Special thanks to our Platinum Sponsor; Krups and our Gold Sponsor; Kerry Food Beverage. Additional sponsors were Oscar’s and DaVinci Gourmet Syrups, La Marzocco (Patera Group Inc.), Cirqua Custom Water and the Canadian Coffee & Tea Expo for making this event possible! As CNBC Event Coordinator, WholeCup Coffee Consulting ensured transparency in all aspects of the running of this national barista championship and was in accordance with the WBC Ltd., Rules & Regulations and the WBC Barista Guidelines dated April 2005. Sherri Johns, WBC/CNBC Head Judge and volunteer, held a CNBC Judges Training/Certification Workshop prior to the CNBC. Our gratitude also to Cindy Chang (WBC North American Hemisphere Coordinator) for her volunteer work in this success story.
