VANCOUVER, BC (May 24th, 2004) – Canada’s only trade show and educational forum for the coffee and beverage industry takes place June 11th  & 12th, 2004 at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Canadian Coffee & Tea Expo attracts retailers and restaurateurs, industry experts and novices to take part in over 20 industry workshops and view over 100 displays, exhibits and products.

A newly announced, and first time seminar series, for the consumer on Saturday, June 12th hopes to attract the amateur coffee and tea enthusiasts and is open to the general public with advanced registration. Consumers and trade can win one of dozens of Krups professional home espresso machines, given away each hour throughout the conference. Coffee and tea samples, informative interactive seminars and the newest trends and equipment in coffee and tea make this an exciting event for both consumers and trade.

Consumer seminars on Saturday, June 12th  (open to the public for the first time) are $35 each (includes admission cost) and include:

• The World of Coffee: coffee knowledge, tasting coffee like a pro (Bill Herne, Consultant, Sherri Johns, Whole Cup Consulting).
• Coffee & Chocolate pairing (Bill Herne, Consultant, Sherri Johns, Whole Cup Consulting).
• Consumer Espresso Lab (Mark Prince, Coffeegeek.com).
• Tea 101 (Louise Roberge, Tea Association of Canada).

Consumer and trade visitors are treated to the added excitement of the 2nd annual Canadian Barista Championship, endorsed by the Coffee Association of Canada,
which takes place on the trade, show floor. Watch local Coffee maestro Sammy Piccolo defends his Canadian title before jetting off to Italy to defend his world title. Consumers can also watch Latte Art as trade professional learn the proper milk steaming and latte art techniques: stretching, texturing, temperature control, and pouring of milk.

Industry workshops on Friday, June 11th include:

• Achieving Financial Success in the Coffee Business (Ed Arvidson, Bellissimo Coffee Info Group).
• Shop Roasting (Jason Matuzewiski, Les Café Astoria)

• Latte Art Milk Steaming and Latte Art (Stephen Vick and Kyle Larson, Zoka Coffee Roaster and Tea Company) Proper milk steaming and latte art techniques: stretching, texturing, temperature control, and pouring.

• The Art & Science of Italian Espresso (Francesco Curatolo, Consultant) and Profiting from a Tea Menu (Brendan Waye, The Chai Company/Steeps Tea Inc).

The Expo’s preliminary program for the trade opens on June 9th and 10th and features two hands-on Barista training workshops – “Barista Basics & Espresso Training” and “Intermediate Barista Workshop”- and two all day seminars - “Opening a Successful Coffee Business” and “The Business of Tea – How to start your own business”. Sunday, June 13 offers a “post-expo” four-hour coffee house expedition along Vancouver’s Commercial Drive, a roasting demonstration at JJ Bean House of Coffee and a Tea Stroll. Sunday is open to both trade and consumers.
