Rob Stephen, Former Head of Green Coffee Department for Dunkin Donuts, Launches Consulting Company FRANKLIN, MA. U.S.A. (Feb. 16, 2004)—Rob Stephen, former coffee product development and green coffee head at Dunkin Donuts, has announced the formation of a new consulting company – Coffee Solutions. In his past incarnation, Stephen was responsible for one of the largest coffee supply chains in the world. Rob Stephen was a key player in Dunkin Donut’s decision to embrace Fair Trade coffee, and also developed the espresso blend now being used nationwide.
“Dunkin Donuts provided me a valuable opportunity to solve problems at every level of complexity,” said Stephen, “but to be honest I’m very excited to again be working with companies and people who are mainly interested in coffee and differentiating themselves through excellence.”
With a client list ranging from micro-roasters to foreign governments, Coffee Solutions will offer services to fit a variety of needs that are not currently being addressed. Emphasis will be given to solving client problems. “Identifying a problem is easy,” said Stephen, “but getting to a solution is often difficult. Given my track record, this is the area that I think I can help the most people with.”
According to Stephen, “The feeling of the U.S. specialty roasting trade is that something needs to be done to improve the sustainability of the coffee supply, and in my opinion the area that needs the most attention is the ability to consistently produce high quality coffee. While the desire is there, in many cases the skill sets are lacking up and down the supply chain.”
Rob currently serves on the Board of Directors of the SCAA, where he chairs the Governance committee, and has served as Co-chair of the Technical Standards Committee.
