On November 4 to 6th, 2004, the Specialty Coffee Association of Costa Rica will host the 2nd Annual 2004 Costa Rica Barista Championship in San Jose, Costa Rica! This event is hosted at the El Panino Café in San Rafael de Escazu and Mall Terramall, at Tres Rios, San José
A barista is an espresso bartender, someone who expertly prepares specialty coffee drinks. The barista championship is like the “Olympics of coffee”. We would like to invite you to witness what professional baristi do to improve the coffee and espresso in Costa Rica and throughout Central America. The barista championship presents awareness of great espresso and recognizes the skills of talented baristi all in one place!
Participating Baristi from the far reaches of the Costa Rica will compete in this three-day barista championship each preparing 4 espresso, 4 cappuccini and 4 signature drinks that contain espresso for a panel of 6 judges. Certified judges are trained in both sensory and technical evaluation of espresso evaluation and barista performance.
The energy level is bound to be high when baristi from around Costa Rica will vie for first place, prizes, awards and a chance to compete representing Costa Rica Rico at the 2005 World Barista Championship in Seattle, Washington USA! We will also have Jose Miguel Coto, the 2003 CRBC Champion and 8th place finisher out of 37 countries in Trieste at the 2004 WBC, attempt to regain the national championship!
