A large, sturdy, good-looking and inexpensive knockbox that will last a long time.
Positive Product Points
Puck me! It sure does hold a lot of pucks. And sturdy, too. Great value for the money.
Negative Product Points
Almost too big for home use. If you are not diligent about cleaning, you may want a smaller box. Also, I like to buy American, and it's not clear to me where this unit was manufactured - given the price, I'm guessing it's not the USA.
Detailed Commentary
Who would think that one could have an opinion on something as mundane as a knockbox? It took this knockbox to make me realize I actually did have opinions about what could be good and bad in what is, essentially, a garbage can.
I bought this unit because I have been through several of the square boxes - I could expound on their lack of virtue, but this review isn't about them. In any case, this unit appeared to be sturdier than the alternatives, so I bought one for my roasting shop.
I have not been disappointed in the quality. This is a solid, stainless, canister. The rubber parts are thick and heavy. I no longer worry about dinging portafilters by missing the bumper. And Lord knows it will hold some pucks! Dozens, easily. Workmanship and quality are quite good, especially for $45.
All that said, this unit is not without its own liabilities, however. The rubber ring around the base comes off too easily - I glued mine on. The bumper is difficult to remove, which with other knockboxes has been necessary to place in the dishwasher. Finally, however, is the size. This unit is so big that a low volume user can go for a week or more without emptying it. And the problem with that is.... MOLD! I never had mold with lower capacity knockboxes, because I was forced to clean them more often.
