Detailed Commentary
OK, I bought this for its looks and it does look great. But it‘s not a great, not even good, solution for storing coffee and it‘s much overpriced. A glass jar would be a much more economical and long-lasting solution for much less $$.
The basic problem is that the silicon seal used is prone to ripping. The design of the cannister forces the seal away from the hinge and the rather sharp edge of the lower cannister tends to cut into the silicon seal. The end result is the the seal tears along the lines where the cannister mouth and lid meet. Unless you have ready access to buying white gasket material in small amounts locally (I have to buy 18‘ of it at a time at about $3/ft)there‘s simply no easy way to make these canisters usable economically.
