Detailed Commentary
I love this thing. This was my introduction to home roasting after an officemate told me all about it. I bought it online from hearthware direct. Paid $120 or so for it.
I now do the following every day. In the evening, I roast a batch, and leave it in the hearthware. in the morning, I dump the beans into my grinder, grind them all, and brew a 12 cup batch in our braun coffeemachine. There are three coffeedrinkers in our house and we all think we are having the best coffee we ever had.
I heard about people having problems with the hearthware, but after about 30 roasts (knockon wood) mine has been doing great. it is quiet, foolproof, and even though it doesnt roast alot, it is fine for my needs.
We still get a thrill out of watching it at work! My only other gripe is it is a bit expensive, at about 4x the amount I paid for our cheapo braun machine, but our coffee is better, and it costs me less to buy green beans, so it seems worth it.
