Five months and it died -- on the plus side, it was replaced within a couple of weeks with what appears to be a brand new one. Check archives of alt.coffee -- this seems to be a common comment
Follow-up ( Jan. 4, 2002 ) ; now on my fourth roaster -- none have lasted close to a year. Customer service has been wonderful; but would love to see this product improved for reliability.
Detailed Commentary
Purchased from http://www.sweetmarias.com for about $150 ( it was a gift ). This was our first attempt at home roasting -- we absolutely fell in love with it and the marvelous coffee we were able to make. We roast about 4 batches every other day to accomodate various preferences within the household.
Excellent response on the warranty claim -- handled the whole transaction via e-mail; given tracking number when replacement shipped. Just completed roasting 4 batches within two hours after it arrived.

Three Month Followup
We've finally had one survive for almost a year with no signs of death -- MAJOR factor ( in my humble opinion ) is that I never make more than two batches a day and let it sit between uses.
I'll be in line for an upgraded one and have bought the Hearthware Gourmet when they were marked down to about $50 some months ago.
