Detailed Commentary

I couldn't fathom using the small plastic tamper that came with my other espresso machines so had to order a tamper that matched the performance of my machines.

I've owned one other tamper (51mm skull head, flat base) for my other espresso machine but wanted one to match my new La Pavoni Professional so ordered a new one from Reg Barber. I ordered the 51mm Tall Bubinga tamper with stainless steel C-ripple base and white delron RB logo on top. The handle is gorgeous wood that matches my La Pavoni's wooden handles. The base is heavy, fits my porta-filter basket perfectly, and the C-ripple base creates a larger surface area for water to pass through the coffee (I'm not sure if I've noticed a difference in using the C-ripple base over my other tamper which has a flat base but the C-ripple certainly creates a neat finish on the puck of coffee. The wooden handle unscrews from the stainless steel base so it's easy to interchange other handles or bases if necessary.

Reg Barber even offers custom logo designs for an additional $25 which really personalizes your tamper.

Buying Experience

The Reg Barber website was very easy to use and each customizable option is clearly explained in the FAQ section on the website. Living in Alberta, ordering from BC was nice as most espresso suppliers I've ordered from in the past were not even located in Canada. The tamper arrived within 2 weeks. The tamper cost just over $126 CAD shipped. The price for this tamper was more than I've spent on previous tampers but the quality and craftsmanship is second to none.
