For the beginning roaster this machine is fantastic for the price and simplicity of use!
Positive Product Points
Great for Beginning Roasters..one can turn it on and walk away or watch it closely. Smokeless feature is a definite benefit since there are no others out there. Its been very reliable and I roast about three times a week. Good for small batches and the price. Good for light roasts and dark roasts in small batches.
Negative Product Points
Not too noisy but hearing the second crack can be tricky...otherwise I have had no problems.
Detailed Commentary
I am a first time roaster...after reviewing many of the products out there I went with the Nesco home roaster. Why? Because the wife doesn't like smoke in the house and I wanted a machine that didn't take rocket science to operate. Well....it has delievered! The wife is happy because the roaster gives off virtually no smoke...though the aroma of roasted coffee fills the house, which is not a bad thing....roasted coffee does not smell like fresh ground coffee...it has almost a popcorn..nutty aroma.
The roaster has delievered just like it said it would. I like how easly it cleans up. Just pop it into the dishwasher or wash it by hand. The chaff collector works great...no need for a vacuum like some reviews state. I recommend just pouring the beans into a collender and tossing them to cool them down after roasting. What little chaff remans will flake off, but most the of chaff will reside in the chaff collector.
The inital setting of 20 minutes is great for a city or full city roast. 23 minutes will give you a Vienesse roast and head toward an espresso roast. This machine is really geared toward lighter roasts but produces a smooth, clean cup of coffee ( depending on the bean your roasting of course) Some beans will require more time then others and then there is the humidity factor.
I have no other machines to compare to when it comes to noise but its not too bad. Hearing the second pop is a bit tricky but once you get a feel for timing of roasts and keep a mental note you will find that the second pop usually occurs around 15-18 minutes then watch it carefully.
Im very satisfied with this roaster and recommend it for the price. I have not had any problems with it at all and hope I don't. I have read other reviews regarding product quality but yet to have a problem. I am hoping to get a few years use out of it. I roast about two or three times a week in small batches...I let the beans rest overnight and grind them in the morning. Its a great hobby.
Buying Experience
Purchases at Burman Coffee Traders...and I searched and searched. They have the best deal! Great Customer service, personal Gary even contacted me himself. Great selection of good quality beans.

Very reliable machine, never had a problem with it. I do notice one thing. This machine is good for beginners however for a darker roast or more precise roast the Nesco "cooks" the beans. It takes about 23 minutes to get a good roast but many of the roasts will taste the same regardless of the beans...even after a three day resting period. Because of this I will purchase a different roaster once this one goes. But overall, I have been satisfied with it and the smoke free system is a bonus!
