Fantastic machine, particularly at the price I purchased it out-however, weight and energy used may make it overkill for the home!
Positive Product Points
Amazing build quality, excellent access to parts, easy repairs etc. Very easy to use, quick to warm up, powerful steaming capabilities.
Negative Product Points
OEM and aftermarket parts veeeeery expensive. Very heavy. Finish is scratched very easily. Annoying water outlet diameter (1/8" I think). Almost too powerful steaming capabilities-requires a larger milk pitcher (500ml etc) to avoid boiling the milk. Big, and bulky.
Detailed Commentary
I purchased the machine for spares or repair on eBay in the UK for £190, a complete steal considering that working models cost £600 and above. For some reason, many people stayed away, but now I have repaired it, I cannot see why. I have hooked the machine up to a flojet system as I will need to move it regularly.
The machine initially took several hours to rise to temperature, and even then did not dispense hot water or steam. I phoned a repair service in London, and after a £60 call out, we discovered it was a damaged heating element. The guy took the machine back to his workshop as a 'project' and asked me to phone him the next week. When I did, he told me he had managed to find another Cimbali Junior not working, but with a working heating element. He switched it over, added a new steam wand, replaced most of the gaskets and seals and charged me £120 in total, including the call out-a great deal, I'm sure you'll agree.
The machine now works perfectly, and I am particularly happy as I did it for such little money. I recently had a tasting session with friends-the speed and efficiency of the machine is incredible, although you really notice how much water it uses! I will use the machine in a gallery, although it may be overkill for the home!
