Detailed Commentary
This is my first (and hopefully last) espresso machine. After reading and researchng these machines ad nauseum, I decided that the common thread seemed to be that people start out with lesser machines and continually upgrade. I wanted to start out with THE machine.
My research indicated that I wanted either a double boiler or an Hx, and that I wanted an E61 group head. That left me looking at the Brewtus (which did not appeal to me visually, plus I could never get a quote from the company that sells them) and numerous Hx machines. I culled many of the Hx machines based upon puny drip trays, plus I wanted to be able to direct plumb.
While I still like the idea of a double boiler for simplicity sake, now that I have had a few months to figure out brew temps, etc., I'm comfortable with the Hx. Heck, my 9 yr. old can make espresso on this machine...and steam milk.
I REALLY like the large drip tray, the quiet of the rotary pump, and the direct plumb features. I'm very pleased with the steaming ability, and enjoy the hot water dispenser for hot tea and chai latte.
Buying Experience
I purchased this machine from Chris Coffee, and must say that I have been impressed with the customer service. While I have not had to quiz them too much, I did make a couple of calls early in the process and was always helped by knowledgeable staff.
