A fantastic first machine, lasted eight years and still running strong!
Positive Product Points
Clean lines, simple layout easy to use and built to last. Great Espresso, Caps and Lattes.
Negative Product Points
Group handle is weak and cracks if used reagularily, and it would be nice if the feet on the machine would get it up off the countertop a few more inches. After eight years its starting to show some wear, go figure! The bottom has started to rust a little, and It doesnt have the power to steam cup after cup of milk.
Detailed Commentary
Ive been reading reviews for months trying to decide on which machine Id upgrade too, and finally I realized that Ive never left a review for the Gaggia Classic that Ive owned for over eight years. The old saying its not the tools you use that make the difference holds true for the Gaggia, Ive been working with this machine for a long time and only in the last few years have I decided to take a greater interest in the quality of my shots and in the staying power of my steamer. I can pull a MEAN SHOT with this machine, crema, crema... We have learned to steam first, clear the machine and then pull a shot. For the money this is a great machine, the only two gripes Ive had are with the hollow group handle that Ive replaced twice because it cracks after constantly banging on it day after day after day, and the fact that moisture gathers under the machine too early and becomes difficult to clean under consequently leading to a rusty bottomed machine. We also after eight years had to replace the thermostat, main fuse and the main gasket, as well as give it a thorough cleaning internally. I wish I had experience with a few other machines as to be able to compare but the fact that this has lasted so long should speak for itself.
