Detailed Commentary
This was a good machine for a newbie.... until during routine cleaning/descaling, as specified in the book, the screw holding shower screen broke off (this happened not long after the warranty ran out) . If the machine is left on for too long and it gets very hot and the screw fuses in the boiler block. Took it for repairs, 2 weeks later got it home with a new boiler ($180), switched it on and sparks flew. Returned to repairer, two weeks later back home... it leaks from the steam pipe joint and internally - I can hear hissing in the machine. Buttons on the front of machine fail - cannot switch off, make steam anything. Return to repairer- he says this is not related to original problem and will require a new electrical board for front panel. 3 weeks later get it home - seems to be working..... 3 months later clean the machine check the screw etc.... put it back together.... leaks & hissing again.... Give up and just use it as is. Contacted Krups, several times by phone - They were rude, didnt return calls, had no interest what so ever! Wrote 3 page letter of complaint - nothing - no reply at all. 9 months later screw broke again!!! The Krups is dead.... long live my new Rancilio Silvia
