- Consistent espresso shots after adding a PID - Simple to use - Very Portable - Easy to care for
Negative Product Points
- Could use a factory PID and gauge option for those non-DIY'ers - Steam knob squeaks and plastic fascia fell off of the knob
After using a Mr. Coffee espresso machine buying the Silvia was either going to be a disastrous misadventure for me or a huge success story. I mean moving from a $150 machine/grinder combo to a $ 629. machine plus getting a new grinder ($300) to go with it was a big commitment but It turned out to be a success. After trying temperature surfing for a while it was still hard to control shot quality so I added a PID and then later on a pressure gauge and insulated the boiler. Now the machine is rock solid, the only variable come from the beans / grinder and tamping variances. If the machine came with PID and gauge as options it would be easier but I guess on the plus side the entry price is lower and since I am a DIY'er it worked out fine. The machine is so light and portable I even brought it to work one day during an appreciation event for some colleagues. I love how it uses minimal counter space!
