This is my second FlavorSelect, and I understand this machine has been discontinued, so it is no longer available in colors other than white. I'm sorry that I laid the electric cord of my first one on the hot stove and melted it! I had the first one for several years, and I LOVE this coffee maker.
This machine is easy to program, it's just like setting an alarm clock; but if I wake up earlier than that, I just press one button to start the brewing process and turn off the timer. You can adjust the flavor (there is a dial on the top of the machine), but I have always had mine on the strongest flavor setting, because after all, why do we drink coffee? You can also adjust the length of time the coffee remains warm for you. However, the machine is simple to use and not bogged down with hardware and gagetry. It is compact, lightweight, and attractive.
I think the flow valve on Braun coffee makers is a superior lever design. In comparing different brands at stores, they all seems to have the same type of spring-loaded flow system...EXCEPT Braun. Theirs is unique, and highly functional. It won't get gummy, bent, loose, or pop off like I have seen in the other style. Over time, they also start leaking when you remove the carafe during the brew process. I have not seen this problem in Brauns.
The shape of the carafe makes for FAST and easy pouring, without dribbles (like some pots, which drip badly if you pour them too fast). The brew time seems much faster than my friends coffee makers, but I've never actually timed it. The grounds basket swings out for easy removal, you never have to touch the wet filter to remove it...just turn the basket upside down over the trash can, the spent filter and coffee grounds fall out, and you place the basket back onto the hinged bracket. It clicks back in place and won't work if it is not in right, so you really can't get it wrong. It swings closed and clicks into place securely. The carafe and the whole coffee maker are a breeze to clean.
