The HG will brew coffee hot like it should be for a modest price, you will get a good cup a fancy looking machine with a better than average build and finish.
Positive Product Points
The machine does get up to temperature and makes a good cup of coffee. If you like its styling it is a pretty machine. It is not a classic beauty, more of a post modern or modern design.
Negative Product Points
It only has an 8 cup capacity. Some will think the method of water boiling to condensing hot water is loud, making steam is noisy. The only truly annoying negative I can think of is the carafe pouring spout as of 8/2011, maybe they will redesign it but ours was not.
Detailed Commentary
Spout of carafe-I did get a 'replacement' shortly after purchase and reading reviews but it suffers the same problem. For all the design to the main machine they could have a made a better lower interior lip to the spout. There is an edge where the glass/silicone adhesive/plastic meets, due to this when you reach the bottom of your pour you have to tilt the carafe a full 90 degrees and even still there is liquid that won't come out.
8 cup capacity -could be a real draw back to certain households. There are only two coffee drinkers in our house so it does okay, and if necessary we make another pot. For us we never leave ground coffee out for long, so the programmable features are useless. And since we only ever plug it in to make coffee it took a while to get used to ignoring all the start up lights on the control panel and just hit the on button and start. For others, the noise of the machine is bothersome. We realize that is how the machine works and our previous machine, Presto Scandinavian, was loud at times also. Honestly I'd buy another one of those if I could, but this machine does closely match the Presto's performance.
Buying Experience
Community Coffee had a deal with shipping and free coffee and things and I found a code for money off at the time. It was either this or a technivorm, I am sure that the TV is a better machine but at this time we could not comfortably live with buying a 300 drip machine.
