The pros & cons of this brewer have been well documented in other reviews; I own both a Thermal Carafe model and a GR10-B so this review will cover both. I use the Thermal Carafe model at home and the other at a weekend old farm house. Obviously I like Bunn Brewers but before you consider buying one there are several points that I would like to emphasize. Both machines are capable of brewing great coffee, however they both need tweaking.
Negative Product Points
Bunn coffee makers brew TOO FAST! (1.) A three minute brew time might be great for advertising purposes however drip coffee should brew between four & five minutes; the flavor is superior. (2.) Finely ground coffee will overflow the brew funnel if you make a ten cup pot full. (3.) THE SOLUTION! Bunn makes a “Restricted Flow Head, “this little spray head slows down the water flow and solves both problems, Bunn will send you one for Free!
Detailed Commentary
If you decide on a Bunn Brewer and I love mine, call Bunns toll free number and request the “ restricted flow head. “ 1-800-352-2866, it will show up in the mail pronto. Call them before you make your purchase and you will be ready to go when you buy. Bunn should include one with each brewer, hint, hint! I favor the Thermal Carafe model simply because all warmer plates ruin the flavor in short order. The price difference about $ 50.00 must be considered. I think the carafe is very well made, doesn’t leak and worth the extra money. There are a few more points I would like to make. Bunn brewers stay on all the time and are therefore not energy efficient. They draw 35 watts all the time and 800 watts during heat up. I turn the switch on & off every day. It takes 15 minutes to warm up but it takes me that long to grind my beans and get my eyes open; no big deal to me. Drip coffee should brew at 200-205 degrees the experts say, my Bunns brew at 196-195 respectively; close enough and far better then many. These are great machines for an office environment; brew a pot every 15 minutes. Bunns high quality filters are cheap in bulk quantities, about 10 bucks on line for 1000 and a must for their brewers! Last but not least is the quality of build, made in America and a THREE YEAR WARRANTY. Bunns customer service is first rate and they have three service centers. It seems like no one makes a perfect drip brewer; the quality of the cup makes it worth the hassle.
