Poor design makes for a mess on the counter, rarely works without overflowing and if it does coffee is weak.
Positive Product Points
Not having a heating element under the coffee pot avoids burnt coffee and stale coffee taste. I liked the idea of thermo pot so I could have a cup immediately and another a couple of hours later and coffee still tastes just brewed. Will keep coffee hot for at least 3 hours. Comes with de-liming tool.
Negative Product Points
Brewer clogs and coffee overflows. Brews in 3 minutes but drips for another 3 at the end of the brew cycle. Has no shutoff valve if someone grabs a cup before brew cycle is complete. I think it better to use fresh cold water when brewing, this has reservoir holds water at brew temp but it might be held for days hours at least before water is used for brewing. When you pour fresh cold water in out comes the old hot water from the reservoir, your fresh water goes into storage for the next time you brew.
Detailed Commentary
I bought this used on EBay for only $65.00 including shipping. Seller said it was used but it did not appear used, it still had the unopened bunn coffee filters, de-liming tool and instructions. It was as good as new at a low price. Seller had a 45 day warranty, sadly I have to take the seller up on offer to return for a refund less shipping.
The brewer flow rate is to fast, if you fill the coffee basket more than 1/3 full (1/3 of what Bunn claims to use for a full pot) the fast flow of water will float the grinds over the paper filter, clog the basket and you have a major mess to clean up. A fowl way to start your day!
I used only Bunn filters, tried different grinds and it almost always clogged and overflowed. I found reducing the amount of coffee to 1/3 of what should be used would keep the brewer from overflowing because of the clogged basket opening. Problem is the coffee is way too weak when you reduce the amount to a point it will not overflow the basket and clog the flow into the coffee pot. I tried decreasing the amount of water to 1/2 the pot size this helped make the coffee stronger but still not strong enough. I even tried one of those metal filter baskets this just aggravated the overflow problem.
This brewer is not for me but it might work for you if you make small amounts of coffee and enjoy your coffee a little on the weak side. I am a home roaster and seller of green coffee beans and love coffee! I like it full flavored and strong made from high quality green beans. This brewer will not allow me to make full flavored or a full pot of coffee.
Our home has everything we need to roast green beans, a high quality bean roaster and $1,000 burr coffee grinder. The end of the line in good coffee is the brewer and it doesn't work....... Bunn makes some great brewing equipment but this product is a engineering nightmare. Buy something else beside this Bunn for your coffee brewer.
