I did a lot of research prior to purchasing my next coffee maker and believed this model (453) had everything I could want. However, upon use I discovered that the coffee strength can not be increased. The first and absolute deal breaker is that the machine decides the quantity of coffee that should be ground regardless of the strength setting selected or the amount put in the container. Sure, I can always stand there and run the grinder a second time, but this defeats the purpose of the timer. I do use dark roast beans. Another issue I realized after purchasing the machine is that there are always residual grounds in the feeder channel. So it defeats the "freshly ground coffee" feature unless you are make pot after pot or clean out the channel which than wastes coffee. If this machine made the strength of coffee desired it would be an exceptional item.
