It takes more work than an automatic drip, but the results are worth the effort!
Positive Product Points
Very basic, elegant design, very high quality glass. Filters are better quality than any I‘ve ever used. Coffee brewed is the best!
Negative Product Points
It‘s a totally manual pour-over brewer. Filters are sometimes hard to find.
Detailed Commentary
I‘ve used this coffeemaker since 1977 (23 years), and three of those years used it for making coffee in my coffeehouse. I‘ve never found another drip method that can come close to the quality brew I get from my Chemex. Melitta units are fine, but don‘t compare. The Chemex will bring out a complexity of flavors that other drip methods can‘t. This is also a drawback for the Chemex, as it can bring out a negative flavor if there is any present. Proper technique and patience is a must with a Chemex to achieve the best results. If you are lucky, you can find a Chemex water carafe to functionally and visually complement the brewer.
