Detailed Commentary
I bought this product basically because I am a klutz and tend to drop and break glass carafes often. I love the fact that I can fill my cup with one hand. The coffee comes out at the perfect temperature, and has a good flavor, even after sitting in the built-in carafe for two hours.
I can see where it would be awkward to fill the reservoir if the unit is placed on a counter under a cabinet, but since I keep mine on a baker’s rack, I have not had this problem. You would have to be pretty lazy if you find it difficult to slide the coffeemaker forward in order to fill it. Someone else complained that he had to brace the unit with one hand to keep it from sliding around while filling his mug; I solved this problem by placing it against the back wall. Easy-peasy!
When I first used this coffeemaker, there was some mysterious water leakage around the base; I am not sure where it originated, but when I moved it to a more level location, the leaking ceased. There is a tiny filter fitted over the valve that opens to dispense the coffee when you push the button. I personally have never had a problem with it, but my brother was visiting once and cleaned the unit before making coffee. When I poured the 2nd or 3rd cup, the valve stuck open and kept pouring coffee after I removed the mug. It turns out that he did not re-seat the mesh filter properly, and it became dislodged, plus he could not find my filters and had used a paper towel, which collapsed and caused grounds to leak into the holding container. The grounds got into the valve and prevented it from closing completely, thus causing the leak. Other than these two incidents, I have had no problems or complaints regarding the components.
One complaint I have had is that the clock is set by pushing two buttons; one for the hour and one for the minutes. I have accidentally changed the time while moving the coffeemaker when cleaning the counter. Since the time was changed, the coffee was not ready when I woke up the next morning, but it didn’t take me long to figure out what had happened. This could be remedied by having switch on the unit that would have to be moved to a certain position in order to change the time.
I have the 12-cup unit and usually I am the only one who drinks the coffee, so I only make about 4 cups at a time. I have found that other coffeemakers have been inconsistent in the flavor and strength of the coffee when not brewing a full pot, but not with the BrewStation! I have brewed as few as two and as many as 12 cups of coffee with this coffeemaker, and the quality of the coffee has been consistently perfect regardless of the amount brewed.
